How to Choose a Steel Fabrication Company in Qatar & the UAE
Start with certifications and welding standards
The first thing to verify is whether the fabricator works to recognised international standards: AWS D1.1 and AISC for structural steel, ASME B31.3 for process piping, ASME Section IX for welding procedures (WPS/PQR) and welder qualification, and API 650/620 for tanks. An ISO 9001 quality system shows the processes are controlled end to end. Ask to see certificates — a serious fabricator will share them readily.
Check welding and inspection capability
Welds are where fabrication quality lives or dies. Confirm the company uses coded welders working to qualified procedures, and that joints are backed by NDT — visual, dye-penetrant (PT), magnetic particle (MT), radiographic (RT) and ultrasonic (UT) testing as the application demands. Material traceability (mill certs tied to each part) matters for oil & gas and structural work.
Assess capacity, equipment and in-house engineering
Can they handle your tonnage and timeline? Look for in-house detailing and design, adequate shop area, blasting and coating facilities, and their own erection crews rather than fully subcontracted labour. In-house engineering shortens the loop between drawing and steel, reducing errors and delays.
Local presence in Qatar and the UAE
A local workshop, local spares and local crews mean faster response and lower logistics cost. In Qatar, ICV (In-Country Value) certification is also a procurement advantage on government and semi-government tenders. In the UAE, check the fabricator can meet Dubai Municipality, ESMA and free-zone requirements.
Red flags to avoid
Be wary of fabricators who can't produce certificates, won't share WPS/PQR, have no NDT process, subcontract everything, or quote far below market without explaining how. The cheapest bid often becomes the most expensive once rework, delays and rejected welds are counted.
Why Fabrication Masters
Fabrication Masters is the fabrication division of Qatar ICV-certified Aamtron Group, with offices in Doha and Dubai. We combine certified welders, in-house engineering, NDT-backed quality and a single point of accountability across both countries. Learn about us or see our standards.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What certifications should a steel fabricator have?
Look for ISO 9001, AWS D1.1, AISC, ASME B31.3, ASME Section IX (WPS/PQR) and API 650/620 for tanks, plus material traceability and an NDT process.
Why does local presence matter for fabrication?
Local workshops, spares and crews mean faster response, lower logistics cost and easier compliance with Qatar ICV and UAE municipality/ESMA requirements.
How do I compare fabrication quotes fairly?
Compare scope, standards, NDT, materials and traceability — not just price. The lowest bid can cost more once rework, delays and rejected welds are included.
